New York Fashion Week Makeup Challenge and Face of The Day 4

Ahhh, Valentine's Day. Decided to warm things up a bit, wearing red in honor of the day of love. The day began with backstage at Leanne Marshall, and ended with a romantic evening with my wonderful boyfriend.

Let's see what I used, shall we?

Epic Destinations- Robert Verdi Presents the Future of Fashion Lounge

When modern elegance, amazing brands, great minds and fabulous personalities come together, the result is the Luxe Laboratory, hosted by style superstar Robert Verdi. With everything the fashionably frazzled could ever want or need, the Luxe Lab was an Urban oasis to editors and celebrities alike.

**Tres Chic, no?

For those of you who don't know him (hello, where have you been?!), Robert is the ab fab personality behind the hilarious Robert Verdi show on Logo TV. He is a man who wears many hats (or shades), and boasts an impressive resume that includes stylist to the stars, party planner, entrepreneur, inventor, and captain of good taste. Entering his world is like immersing yourself in a fantasy land full of the awesome, and speaking with Robert is like chatting with your in-the-know gay best friend, only a thousand times more amazing. Having taken a trip through the Luxe Lab, I found myself euphoric. Without it, I just might have started convulsing in what would have been a mid-fashion week meltdown.

Fashion Week Hair Makeover with Redken and Cutler Salon

So what do you do when fashion week is fast approaching, and your hair is two-toned and looking an absolute fright? Why you go to the experts, and get yourself a fabulous hair makeover in time for the big day.

Desperate for a change, I sent out a distress call asking my peers their thoughts on the best salons in the city. In those answers, I heard of a place designed to turn dead-looking hair (see above) right round into extraordinary hair. A sleek and modern space right in Midtown that is cool, comfortable, and bursting at the seams, chock-full of talented people. I was convinced, and I answered my hair's s.o.s by running (not walking) to Redken and the Cutler Salon in New York City. In just two short hours, my hair looked Red Carpet worthy, and I left feeling over-the-moon in love with both my new look and my experience.

Lancome Had Me Chris and Tell- The Saks Event with Chris Benz

Every season has it, that one "it" shade of lipstick that every girl must have. Usually released as a limited edition color, beauty lovers go crazy and the product sells out in a hot New York minute. The lucky few who get their hands on it are stuck in a state of cosmetic induced euphoria (that would be me), and then there are those who were too late, and who are left to hang their heads in shame while frantically searching through ebay on the daily. I have been there, and it isn't pretty.

Not so this time, as I am now the proud owner of Lancome's newest lipstick in the Pout a Porter Lipstick, Chris and Tell. A collaboration with hotter than hot fashion designer Chris Benz, this creamy, sumptuous shade of coral is the hottest color of the spring season. I actually had the opportunity to meet Chris Benz today at a Saks event, as I got the story behind the shade.

Me: Who is the typical Chris Benz girl, what does she look like?
Chris: I don't have the specific look of the girl in mind, but I do have a general idea of what she would be like. She is funny and down to Earth, without being too serious. She is glamorous, but in a casual way

Me: Why a coral?
Chris: We were actually originally going to go with a nude beige. During the creative process, we had a look at the standout colors from the spring line, and then we just started mixing colors. A little bit of this, a bit more of that. In that sense, it was a very organic process.  In the end we had the shade you see here, and we were very happy with it.

Me: So why a coral?
Chris: The coral shade of the lipstick is a new update on a classic color. Kind of like your grandmother's coral, but fresher. It is chic, universally flattering, and easy to wear. Bright, but not too bright, a coral that is pink and not orange.

Me: So are you a fan of making the lips stand out?
Chris: Well, I do feel like a lively lipstick is an easy way to update an outfit. With each different lip color that you put on, you change your look, and how you feel.

And that folks is the inside scoop. Chris was an absolute delight to speak with, and extremely down to Earth. Oh, and he has the patience of a saint, as he waited while I pulled my camera out of my Mary Poppins-esque bag, to snap the pic you see above.

Unfortunately, Chris and Tell seems to be sold out almost everywhere. If you do visit the Lancome website, it might tell you which locations near you will still have it. Good luck beauties!

Stay tuned for swatches and a more in-depth review of the lipstick, if I can bring myself to open the box that is.

New from Make Up For Ever- HD Blush!

I have long heard rumblings that there was going to be a brand new product in Make Up For Ever's HD line. In fact, Dany Sanz told me herself that we would specifically be seeing a brand new HD blush sometime in 2010. Well folks, that time has come to reveal the latest and greatest in the HD line. Introducing...

"Make Up For Ever’s high pigmented, non-drying cream blushes leaves virtually no visible texture on the skin and comes in 14 shades ranging from soft natural tones to richly saturated colors for dramatic effects."

Looks like a product that will be perfect for the blush-fickle. Color me excited, who else can't wait to try HD blush?

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Toni Francesc by Mehron

Finishing off my very busy day yesterday, I spent some time with the awesome Mehron Team.

Makeup by Raedawn Johnson for Mehron

Inspired by all things industrial, Raedawn for Mehron created a look revolving around a soft gold lip and strong smoky eye. The feeling was clean with an edge, modern but not over the top.

To achieve the show's signature smoky eye look, Raedawn first lined eyes, both top and bottom, with the Detailz Pen in black. To give the look a slightly rocker vibe, the liner under the eyes was smudged with a brush, using the black from the E.Y.E palette. The liner on top was kept clean, and not extended past the eye, while mascara was applied to top and bottom lashes. Brows were then defined, and cheeks were slightly contoured.

To achieve a softly gilded lip, Raedawn used Gold Metallic Powder, mixed with a pink Glosstone. The industrial babes at Toni Francesc inspired some serious gold lip envy.

The models looked beautiful, but can we discuss for just a moment just how gorgeous key artist Raedawn is? One of the lead artists for Mehron, and a great friend of mine, she is as stunning and sweet as she is talented. Her makeup looks are always a work of art.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Thuy by Make Up For Ever, Zoya, and Cutler Salon

The Thuy girl is classic and cool. A refined Uptown Girl, who is just a little bit undone.

Makeup by Lottie for Make Up For Ever

Led by Lottie, the Make Up For Ever team created a look that was cool and fresh, without trying too hard.

To get the look, models were prepped with HD Foundation, Super Matte Loose Powder #12, Mat Bronze #2 and #6, Shine on Powder in #3 and #6, and Pan Cake Foundation in #3.

The eyes were adorned with Diamond Shadow in #305, Star Powder in #920 and #957, and Smoky Lash Mascara. Lips were stained crimson with a mixture of flash colors #1 and #17, for a soft red pout with no harsh lines.

Nails by Sunshine Outing for Zoya Nail Polish

For the nails, Thuy wanted a look that was neutral, but not too pedestrian. Zoya brought some pizazz to the realm of neutrals by applying two coats of Tasha (a sheer cream), with a layer of Uli (a warm gilded nude) on top.

Hair by Rodney Cutler for Cutler Salon

The hair look for Thuy was all about unique textures and a strong silhouette. To achieve the look, the Cutler team first utilized a straight blow-out. To achieve lift and volume, stylists back-combed hair at the root, effectively lifting hair at the crown. The ultimate goal was to have movement and bounce on the top layer of the hair, as models walk down the runway.

Cool, chic, and just a little undone, the look at Thuy was as beautiful as it was wearable. If shows thus far are any indication, fall will be about red lips and hair texture in a big way.
