I know you all love nails, now let us all have a look at the hottest nail trends for fall, courtesy of CND.

CND Introduces Fall's Limited Edition Colour and Effect

"Texture adds to the strength of the look - and autumn is all about dimensional manicures," says CND Co-founder Jan Arnold. Nails take their cue from striking blue-greens, effervescent reds, and offbeat beige, camels and grays this season.

Steely Dan

Extravagant midnight manicures and tonal shades of heathered mushroom and gray nails complement this Fall's masculine palette of mossy greens, black leather and textured fabrics. To achieve Ruffian's "Lunar Eclipse" manicure, pair deep blue Inkwell with Gold Chrome around the cuticle edge for a metropolitan look. For greige nails like those that complemented Marc Jacobs' refined menswear-inspired collection, or Rag & Bone's chic boyish styles, use dark, concrete gray Asphalt. To get a denim manicure, try CND's limited edition Urban Oasis Colour, a spruce crème, or layer it with limited edition Teal Sparkle Effect for a greenish-blue glimmer.

Power Surge

Classic red nails make way for rich, darkly modern reds with a fiery, defiant attitude. Oxblood red Dark Ruby was topped with Super Shiney™ Top Coat for a provocative, 1930's liquid finish to accessorize the urban street ensembles seen at L.A.M.B. Porcelain doll perfection was achieved with Monique Lhuillier's ultra-shiny, molten manicure in Rouge Red. To reach ultimate glam status, sweep Crimson Sparkle over Scarlet Letter as seen at The Blonds for an electro-luxe manicure.

Balanced Beauty

Glazed neutrals balance feminine tailoring and ethereal designs seen on the catwalk. To get the cashmere manicure from Behnaz Sarafpour, layer opaque, nude Desert Suede topped with Super Matte Top Coat for a touchably soft finish. For pristine, mattefied, limestone nails as seen at Jason Wu, layer Silver Chrome with Putty and Super Matte Top Coat.

Fall 2010 Nail Trends- The looks of Paris Fashion Week with CND

New York fashion week has ended, but that doesn't mean we still can't get our creative nail fix. Over in Paris, the party is just getting started. Here are the amazing and creative looks CND created for Gareth Pugh at Paris Fall Fashion Week.

The Daily Nail: CND's Glam Manis at Paris Fall Fashion Week

Gareth Pugh wanted cutting edge manicures to pair with his heavy metal Fall 2010 collection, so CND supported innovative nail master Marian Newman in creating a chained perfection manicure. "My starting point was to use Gareth's chevron theme and team it with the 'black blend to nude' seen in the makeup. The silhouette of the collection was angular with the occasional hint of softness so I translated this onto many of the nails for the girls," Marian says.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Carolina Herrera by CND, MAC, and Orlando Pita for MoroccanOil

The Carolina Herrera woman is sexy and sophisticated, and the beauty look for her fall 2010 show achieved that look to perfection.
 
Nails by Roxanne Valinoti for CND

 

Channeling luxury, opulence, and rich, lush, fabrics, the nails at Carolina Herrera were all about Chocolate Milk, a pigmented, evening neutral designed to be thrown on with your most sumptuous gown.  Inherently feminine, this light cocoa shade is the perfect compliment to the deep purple eye look done for the show.

 

Hair by Orlando Pita for Moroccan Oil

 

Inspired by a model who came in to the test shoot with her hair hanging loose, Orlando Pita decided to create a sleek but volumized look for the show, to compliment the elegant sophistication of Herrera's collection. Using MoroccanOil Hydrating Styling Cream, the hair team blow-dried model's hair, parting down the side and then pinning the hair behind the ears. To finish, and provide hold, and for extra shine, hair was sprayed with brand new MoroccanOil Luminous Hair Spray.

  

Makeup by Diane Kendal for MAC Cosmetics

 

Something very near and dear to my heart, the artist in me rejoiced to see the MAC team executing perfect purple, smoky eyes on the models. MAC artist Diane Kendal started by lining the lid both top and bottom with Prunella eye pencil, a deep burgundy. Prunella was also applied into the eye crease, and blended out to diffuse the color. Indian Ink and Vibrant Grape were applied both on lid and in the crease, continuously blending the colors into one another. Lots of mascara was applied, and brows were lightly groomed to finish the eye look. A pink/mauve blush (working name Soho, new for fall) was blended into the apples of cheeks, and concealer and then a pink/mauve lipglass (working name Subtle Romance, also new for fall) was also applied to complete the look.

 

  

 

Sleek hair, sophisticated nails, and a purple smoky eye make this beauty gal very happy indeed. I adored this look, and see myself rocking it in the near future for sure.

New York Fashion Week Backstage at Twinkle by Wenlan with CND, MAC, and Redken

The look for Twinkle by Wenlan was inspired by a gothic fairytale, both disturbing and romantic.

Nails by Roxanne for CND

Playing on the theme of the dark and slightly gothic, models were fitted with press-on nails coated with two layers of Dark Ruby, and softened with Super Matte topcoat, to create a crepe-like, textured effect. The length and shape were kept medium length and wearable, custom-fitted to each model's nails. Nail shape was square, with softly rounded edges.

 

  

Hair by John Ruidant for Redken

Further drawing inspiration from the dark and whimsical themes of the collection, the Redken hair team led by John Ruidant combined both matte and shiny elements to create a sleek, but textured updo. Hair was first divided into 2 sections (top and bottom), and blow-dried using Redken's Fabricate. Avoiding the use of brushes and combs, stylists used their fingers to make the sections of hair appear very textured and "producty" while styling. The top section was blow dried straight up for volume at the crown, and then incorporated into the rest of the hair via twisted roll on the side of the head.  The bottom portion of the hair was looped and kept rough, for an extra bit of texture and edge.

A study in contrast, the makeup look for Twinkle combined both shiny and matte elements, and was all about the eyes. Skin was kept soft, matte, and pale, with light contouring around the eyes and jawline with deep bronze blush (working name Laguna, a new shade of mineralize blush for fall). In a look that is all about the windows to our souls, models were treated to a glossy, smoky eye with the use of only one eyeshadow (working name Tarnished Bronze, which is new for fall) with clear gloss on top. Lots of mascara was applied to top and bottom lashes, and false lashes were also fitted on top. Finishing off the look was a flesh colored concealer pencil on the inner rim of the eyes to accentuate eye shape, and dim lip erase and lip balm to nude out lips.

  

  

With just the right amount of drama, the Twinkle beauty look was a stunning study in contrast that left me more than excited to see the collection behind it.

New York Fashion Week Backstage at Karen Walker with CND, Shiseido and

Show 2 of Saturday was Karen Walker's presentation at the Altman Building.  With a focus all on striking red lips, and sheer washes of color, the look was soft with just a hint of pop.

Nails by Angie Wingle of CND

Inspired by the sheer wash of color on the model's eyes and face, and by the playful yet feminine look for Karen Walker Fall 2010, Angie Wingle and the CND team went with Rose Water on model's nails. A cool sheer that plays up the color of the  skin and nails, Rose Water is one of those polishes that every girl must have in their polish wardrobe. Completely buildable, and every-day wearable, Rose Water is all sexy femininity, and perfect for the look of Karen Walker's show.

Hair by Rolando Beauchamp of Bumble and Bumble

 

For Karen Walker, the hair look revolved around a messy ponytail that was kept tight and tidy both on the sides and underneath the head. The hair on top was back combed through with the fingers, so as to not give the look too much rigid structure, and the ponytail was given texture thanks to Bumble and Bumble Does It All Styling Spray. All in all, the hair was designed to play up model's features and draw attention to the star of the show, the red lip. 

  

Makeup by Jenna Maynard for Shiseido 

 

For makeup, the look was all about the red lip. Keeping the face and eyes simple, models were treated to deep crimson pouts, designed to stand out on the otherwise neutral, earthy, clothing color palette. The eyes were given soft definition with sheer tones, and cheeks were contoured slightly with matte bronzing powder.

  

  

Another look where the focus was all on the dramatic lip, Karen Walker did not disappoint.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Ruffian by MAC Cosmetics, CND Nails, and Bumble and Bumble

The look for Ruffian was intergalactic and out of this world. Think Parisian chic meets outer space.

Nails by Angie Wingle for CND 

In this look, the nails are like stars. The moon (base) of the nail is painted in an inverted metallic golden semicircle, mimicking an ultra-bright star. The rest of the nail was then painted with inkwell lacquer, topped with super matte topcoat to give the illusion of a darkened sky. This look was specifically made for Ruffian, and has star power like none we have ever seen before.

Designed by James Kaliardos, the MAC team gave models a look that was all other-worldly, but with a twist. Mimicking the effect of marble, skin was contoured with iridescent, sparkling Luna Cream Color Base and Pink Opal Pigment. Transparent Teal Glitter Reflects was popped on top. Eyes were adorned with either metallic soft violet or metallic steel blue pigment, with Luna Cream Color base underneath to help the pigment stick. Pink pearl was popped onto the inner corner of the eye, and lots of Zoom Lash mascara was applied to lashes. Lips were topped with prolongwear lipstick (a new product for fall!) in a popping fuchsia called Love Forever.

  

Hair by Neil Moodie for Bumble and Bumble

 

Nail Moodie designed the hair look, carried to fruition by the Bumble and Bumble team. To cap off the outer space theme, models were given an aerodynamic chignon that mimics planetary bodies. The effect was cosmic, but not comical. Hair was prepped with Bumble and Bumble Prep Spray, Surf Spray and Styling Cream. It was then combed straight up, and secured 2 inches below the top hairline. Hair was then divided into three sections and swirled into a spherical cone shape that rests on the top of the head.   

 

All in all, I absolutely loved the Ruffian look. What do you think?

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Jason Wu by CND Nails, Aveda, and MAC Cosmetics

The look for Jason Wu was simple and fresh, using a muted color palette that played upon the metallic colors in Wu's fall line.

Nails by Kristina Estabrooks for CND Nails

For the Jason Wu show, CND created a custom blended shade of mushroom using 1 coat of Silver Chrome, with 1 coat of Putty, finished off with Super Matte Topcoat. The shade was inspired by the negatives of a photograph, by color as seen through the fog. Instead of using vivid hues, nails are given a quality likened to an industrial haze.

 

Hair by Odille Gilbert for Aveda

 

  

The hair look for Jason Wu was both simple and clean with a low, faux braided bun.

  

Hair was swept back into a low ponytail, kept fairly unstructured and then wrapped with elastic to give the illusion of a braid. The ponytail was twisted up and knotted into a bun, but kept low. The effect was clean and fuss-free, a hairstyle that any woman can wear.

  

Makeup by Lucia  Peroni for MAC Cosmetics

 

The makeup team, led by Lucia Pieroni, gave models a look that was young, fresh, and slightly masculine.Skin looked bright and youthful, thanks to Strobe Cream and not much else. Mimicking the silver and gold color scheme of the fall collection, models wore a painted metallic gold or silver on their eyes, topped with Reflects Glitter in gold or silver. Lips were kept simple with only lip balm, and models did not wear mascara.  Lucia placed the focus on the eyes, which had an almost magical quality to them.

Spring 2010 Nail Trends Summary from CND

For Fashion Week Spring 2010, CND brought the drama by introducing their brand new Colour and Effects line at 20 different runway shows.

CND's trend expert Jan Arnold, and leading nail stylists Roxanne Valinoti, Angi Wingle and Kristina Baune created what are sure to be the next hot manicure trends.

Here is a summary of the custom designer nail looks as seen on the runways. Rest assured that each and every one of these will be hot for spring next year.

3.1 Phillip Lim - Oilslick topped with asymmetrical sweeps of Gold Sparkle for a deconstructed, oxidized finish

Baby Phat - Gold foil on nails and Gold Chrome topped with Air Dry on toes for an exotic Moroccan-inspired look
BCBG, Costello Tagliapietra, Hervé Léger, and Max Azria - a beautiful, sand blasted look with two coats of Putty followed by Air Dry top coat

Behnaz Sarafpour - Bursts of rich, deep color with Dark Ruby or Asphalt to match '40s inspired pieces

Carolina Herrera - One thin coat of Blackjack and a layer of Muddy Rose topped with Air Dry for a harmonious "Dusty Rose" shade paired with earthy pieces

Cushnie et Ochs - Two coats of Putty topped with two coats of Copper Shimmer for a metallic meets neutral futuristic spin

Malandrino - Desert Suede mixed with coffee grounds and sugar for a dense, sandy texture

Diego Binetti - Nails mimicked a sunrise with Studio White, Ivory Coast and Electric Orange, and Thai nights with Inkwell, Ice Blue Shimmer and colorful rhinestone embellishments

Gottex - Custom sheer metallic wash that combined Bicycle Yellow and Gold Chrome for a shimmery, subtle finish to compliment gold accessories in the collection

Jason Wu - Copper Chrome topped by Super Matte for a gorgeous matte metallic finish

Karen Walker - Gorgeous soft muted gray, combining Silver Chrome and Studio White and a taupe finish combining the same two colors, topped with two coats of Putty to complement preppy, clean looks on the runway

Milly - Two coats of pale pink Marshmallow Rose topped with Air Dry to accessorize preppy-punk pieces

Monique Lhuillier - One coat of Oilslick and one coat of Raisin in the Sun topped with Super Matte top coat created an amazing deep brown color to match the collection inspired by the intricate draping of the Masai Warriors

Ruffian - Art-deco, '40s inspired clean moon manicures with Plumville base, tipped with Blackjack and topped with Air Dry

Twinkle - Brilliant White, Ivory Coast and Super Matte on fingers for a snow-white color sans shine and Ivory Coast, Desert Suede and Air Dry on toes

Victor de Souza - Blackjack on long, pointy nails and hands dipped in paraffin wax for a futuristic glaze

Last, but most certainly not least, CND will also be creating manicure looks for ThreeAsFour at Milk Studios.

Backstage with Gottex at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week

Nails:

Headed by Angi Wingle of Creative Nail Design, the nail team set out to create a custom look especially for the Gottex Show. Angie described the look as a sheer, gold mineral wash. Angie described the look as sandblasted. The color was achieved by mixing a special blend of 3 different lacquers: 5 drops of bicycle yellow, 5 drops of Gold Chrome, and a teeny drop of Oil Slick.

This is the end result, which is absolutely beautiful.

Makeup:
The MAC makeup team, headed by Philippe Chansel, sought to channel the look of rich girls on the beach. Dripping with glamour, the models look both expensive and untouchable, evoking memories of runway vixens circa 1990.

To achieve this look, MAC artists used a mixture of face and body foundation and mineralize skinfinish to create a flawless canvas. Eyes were then defined using feline khol power and lots of mascara to create an intense look. MAC artists used tan pigment to get the light cocoa shade seen on the lids. To enhance the skin, emphasis was placed on the high planes of the face including cheekbones, under the brow, and the cupid's bow, highlighting with the use of MAC pigment in Melon (a beautiful pinky peach). To finish the look, MAC artists applied Sun Tints on the lips.


Hair:
The hair team consisted of stylists from Cutler Salon, headed by Peter Gray. To go with the luxurious beachy vibe, stylists went with a look that is both fashionable and very sleek. A far cry from the texture we have been seeing all over the runways, the look of Gottex was full of shine and smoothness.

Hair was flatironed completely flat, with a microbraid plaited directly below the model's left ear. A tiny strip of hair from the right side was then positioned horizontally across the back of the head and then pinned into the braid to keep hair slicked back and in place.

To finish the look, stylists pinned stunning jeweled headbands in place to match the swimsuits, creating the illusion of an elegant swimcap.
