New York Fashion Week Aveda Tweetup Covers Spring Hair Trend

In case you haven't gotten the memo, we have been in full-blown fall fashion week mode here at Krasey Beauty these past two weeks. While it was fun to jump ahead and get an in-depth look into fall 2010 trends, I would actually like to take a step back and talk about spring 2010 trends for hair. Thanks to the wonderful folks at the Aveda Institute, we can all have the hottest hair looks for spring at our fingertips.

The Beauty of Aromatherapy

Ladies and gents, I am SICK. The infamous post fashion week flu came knocking on my doorstep, and my upper respiratory system answered the call. Run down, dehydrated, and feeling like a furry little woodland creature has lodged itself in my chest, I have combed my beauty stash to find the things that are helping make life a little less unbearable these days.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Leanne Marshall by Zoya Nails, Aveda, and Beauty Society Cosmetics

With what just might be one of my favorite beauty looks for the shows of the season thus far, Leanne Marshall brought out the drama with no apologies.

Nails by Jackie Saulsbery for Zoya Nail Polish

 

Keeping it fabulous with bright pops of color and contrasting textures, Jackie and the Zoya team adorned the models nails with Jo, a cool frosty, silver-blue whose shade morphs depending on the person wearing it. Tips were then decorated, on the diagonal, with purple Savita MatteVelvet, to give digits a dramatic pop that all the models (and editors!) fell in love with.

Fun and funky, the hair look for Leanne's show was a study in both texture and movement. Hair was parted down the middle, and treated with Volumizing Tonic to flatten out the top section without sacrificing texture and volume.  Making up the hold team were Air Control and Pure Abundance Hair Spray, to hold the wild, backcombed, slightly teased, and then tucked-in curls in place.

  

  

Makeup by Nathan Johnson for Beauty Society

The makeup look for Leanne Marshall placed a heavy emphasis on the eyes, with a dark, thick, jet black, smoky eye with sharp contrasting teal accents. Inspired by pops of blue and green in Leanne's Fall line, and the general ethereal nature of her vision, Nathan wanted to bring texture and weight, without being too overpowering. Cheeks were contoured with matte powder, and lips were stained a light berry to complete the look.

 

  

I will go ahead and say it again, I absolutely LOVED the drama of this look. With colors and styles that scream sassy, edgy, spunk, with a hint of the heavenly, this beauty look is one I wouldn't mind recreating myself.

Backstage at New York Fashion Week- Jason Wu by CND Nails, Aveda, and MAC Cosmetics

The look for Jason Wu was simple and fresh, using a muted color palette that played upon the metallic colors in Wu's fall line.

Nails by Kristina Estabrooks for CND Nails

For the Jason Wu show, CND created a custom blended shade of mushroom using 1 coat of Silver Chrome, with 1 coat of Putty, finished off with Super Matte Topcoat. The shade was inspired by the negatives of a photograph, by color as seen through the fog. Instead of using vivid hues, nails are given a quality likened to an industrial haze.

The hair look for Jason Wu was both simple and clean with a low, faux braided bun.

  

Hair was swept back into a low ponytail, kept fairly unstructured and then wrapped with elastic to give the illusion of a braid. The ponytail was twisted up and knotted into a bun, but kept low. The effect was clean and fuss-free, a hairstyle that any woman can wear.

  

Makeup by Lucia  Peroni for MAC Cosmetics

 

The makeup team, led by Lucia Pieroni, gave models a look that was young, fresh, and slightly masculine.Skin looked bright and youthful, thanks to Strobe Cream and not much else. Mimicking the silver and gold color scheme of the fall collection, models wore a painted metallic gold or silver on their eyes, topped with Reflects Glitter in gold or silver. Lips were kept simple with only lip balm, and models did not wear mascara.  Lucia placed the focus on the eyes, which had an almost magical quality to them.
