Holiday FOTD Using Chanel Spring 2010

I know what you are thinking, that Krasey done did went off the deep end. You are thinking, why the heck would she create a winter fotd using Spring 2010 products?! Alas, Chanel Spring 2010 isn't a very spring-like collection at all. That being said, I also couldn't wait to dive in and create this holiday inspired look.

Chanel Spring 2010 Color Collection

Let me start off by saying that Saks does not mess around when it comes to releasing collections way, way before their appropriate time. Let me also go ahead and say that I think that Saks was on to something when they put out the Spring 2010 Chanel collection ridiculously early, as the color scheme captures the essence of cold winter nights.

I am not sure about how all of you felt, but I know I was scratching my head over the soft, tropical colors that Chanel went with for this year's holiday collection. I don't think that soft orange, yellow, and teal has a place amongst tinsel, garland, and lots of snow, but thats just me.

Fortunately, Saks has launched Spring 2010, which I somehow feel is so much more appropriate. So much so in fact, that I could resist reaching for my card and owning a few of these pieces myself.

Chanel Rouge Lacque- Love in a Liquid Lipstick

It has been quite a while since I have mentioned Chanel Beauty here, so shame on me. A beloved high end cosmetics brand, I feel like Chanel consistently delivers both elegance and glamour. I am especially fond of their lip products, and swear by the iconic Glossimer lip glosses. Chanel has done it again, and created a winner in the new Rouge Allure Lacque Luminous Satin Lip Lacquer.

The newest addition to the house of Chanel beauty, Rouge Allure Lacque is a hybrid of gloss and lipstick. With the opacity, coverage, and lasting power of a lipstick, and the sheen of lipgloss, Rouge Allure Lacque is a gift from the cosmetic gods. This liquid lipstick applies with a doe foot applicator, and dries down to a glossy satin finish. As with the Glossimers, there is definitely a subtle sparkle present. Wear on this is excellent, and I find the lacquer to be both creamy, and moisturizing.

The shade I ended up ultimately purchasing was Santal, a creamy carnation pink with subtle gold sparkle.

Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque is a must have for any lip product lover. They are pricey, at $33 for a lipstick, but the fact that it is a two in one product should ease the blow a bit. I definitely see myself purchasing at least another shade, and I am thinking that Dragon would be next on the list.

Chanel Lumieres Celestes Collection

Just when we thought our wallets were safe for the summer, Chanel has once again gone and outdone itself; releasing an amazing array of brand new glossimers and nailpolishes for the summer.
I did have the chance to swatch and view this collection, but I forgot to take my camera, d'oh. I will try to get swatches and a more comprehensive review for you all sometime in the next week.

The 7 Minute Face

I think this is a fantastic idea, as we can all afford to simplify our routines in the morning.

Here is my version of the 7 item face. Since I am known to wake up at the last possible moment on weekdays, I have found ways to streamline my makeup routine in a way that gets me made up in less than 10 minutes.

- Tinted Moisturizer with SPF- SPF coverage is so important, as is proper hydration of the skin. Throw in some tint for coverage and luminescence, and you have a quick face staple. I recommend either Smashbox Face Tint or Remede Labs Translucent UV Coat.

- Bronzer- Nothing screams tired more than dull, pasty skin. I love to sweep my Chanel moisturizing bronzer powder on the hollows of my cheeks, temple, and under my chin for a healthy glow. Smashbox Halo Glow Bronzing Powder works well too!

- A shimmering Eyeshadow Primer- Light colors and shimmers instantly light up the eye area, making you appear more awake. Primers also go far in making your shadow last all day. My current go-to happens to be MAC Shadestick in Lemon Chiffon and Urban Decay Cream Shadow in Whipped

- Mascara- A must for peepers that pop. My go to is Make Up For Ever Smoky Lash, a mascara that lengthens, thickens, and separates with a couple of quick coats.

- Blush- A pop of color on the apples of the cheeks is so youthful and fresh-looking. My go to's include NARS Orgasm and Sin.

- The Nars Holiday eyeshadow palette- Containing 6 very versatile shades that range from nudes to vibrant, you can literally create dozens of looks

- A full coverage lipstick- Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils are fantastic because they are not only opaque, but creamy and full coverage! No gloss required.

How to Not Look Dead

I talk about it all the time, but I realized recently that I have never did a post to feature a certain miracle product.

Said product is a must-have for healthy looking skin, and I apply it daily to keep me looking radiant and awake.
What is it you ask? Why that would be bronzer in general, Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder in Desert Corail in particular.
I discovered this miracle powder while perusing last years Summer offerings from Chanel. This powder is like no other. Many bronzers often leave me looking like these fellows right here
But Chanel Bronzing Powder provides just a hint of color that isn't too orange, or too obvious. It isn't shimmery or sparkly, and yet it isn't too matte either. The end result is natural looking and flawless.

I love how it revives my tired and sometimes dull skin. End results may vary, but this is one after photo that speaks for itself:
* Wearing my beloved bronzer with a little nars orgasm on the apples of my cheeks

This is the holy grail of bronzers for me, and I highly recommend you all haul your butts down to the Chanel counter and pick this up in the color that is right for you.

You will all thank me for it! I promise ;)

Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara Review

Introducing, the Holy Grail of volumizing Mascaras.

Chanel Exceptionnel Mascara was introduced with the Smoky Eyes collection back in 2008, and was being touted as the Mac-Daddy of volumizing mascaras. With a state of the art double helix shaped brush sporting both bristles and plastic teeth; this mascara is meant to grab each and every lash while extending, lengthening, and thickening lashes like crazy.

This mascara is an expensive indulgence, weighing in at a whopping $30! Is it worth it though? I really do think so! I get amazing and long-lasting volume and curl with just 2 coats. No flaking, no smudging. Just instant fat, long lashes!

Yep, this mascara is love. Of course if this is out of your price range, Make Up For Ever Smoky Eyes is still a good option. I wish I could say that drugstore mascaras are worth it, but the last one I used (Loreal Voluminous) was a straight up disaster.

Chanel Summer 2009- Cote D'Azur Swatches and Review

Fresh off the delivery truck and ripe for the picking, here are Chanel's Summer Offerings for the season.

No idea why they didnt have the right long-wear lipstick there, instead they had 2 other random shadesStandouts for me had to be the quad and the loose bronzing powder. Both are beautiful and fairly unique.

With the Aqualumieres, I love the way they feel and the colors, but I don't love the lack of staying power. These wear much like the MAC 3d lipglasses did, giving the lips a wet shine.

The lipsticks I found pretty standard with none of the colors being must haves. Chanel played it safe with these

And bronzers? I still have my Chanel bronzer from last year's summer collection. While it receives love quite often, I am sure I will still have it for many years to come as its huge!

Cote d'Azur should be available at your local Chanel counter in the next couple of weeks.

This year's summer collection features eye colors in bronze, beige and peach and lip colors in corals and pinks. With these beach and sun inspired shades, all I need is a bikini and a cabana boy and I would be set for warm weather for sure ;)

Les Noirs De Chanel Revisited

As promised, I stalked my local Chanel counter for the Les Noirs de Chanel Collection.

Fortunately, I was happy to find this collection sitting rather inconspicuously among other items at my Chanel Counter during my weekly exploratory journey through my local Saks Fifth Avenue.

My jubilation has waned however, and I am sad to report that 2 words can describe this collection- ho hum. Unfortunately, I feel like Chanel just copied off of MAC's Cult of Cherry mattenes, and the dark lip trends of fall 2008.

To give a bit of a background, MAC's Cult of Cherry marketed on the black lips trend of 2008 in releasing 3 almost black matte lipsticks (mattenes) called Kirsch, Bing, & Chockful. These mattenes were gorgeous, rich, and dead on with the trends.

Fast forward to today's Chanel collection. While the lipsticks themselves are amazingly rich, creamy and pigmented (as are all of the Chanel Rouge Allures); the colors just don't strike me as particularly exciting. If this collection had been released last fall, they would have definitely been fresh and avant garde, but seeing these released now just feels a bit stale to me.

Maniac is Kirsch Mattene. This one is a deep dark burgundy red

Hysteria is Bing Mattene. This one is a deep dark red bordering on purple

Obscure is Chockful Mattene. This one is straight up darkest brown.

Unfortunately, the big bad Chanel MA (who probably stood at a whopping 5') did not let me whip out my camera to take pics of these puppies. As soon as I reached into my purse she started giving me the evil eye. Regardless, here is the one pic I could get of me wearing Maniac.


And for reference, here are the Cult of Cherry mattenes:

The nail polishes are meant to compliment the lipsticks. Vendetta is the stand out and was part of the spring 2009 Bohemian Fantasy Collection. The other 2, Madness and Rouge Noir were pretty but nothing to write home about. I already have more dark nailpolishes than I know what to do with.

In conclusion (this is beginning to read a lot like an essay), while these colors in and of themselves are rich and gorgeous, I feel that they are overpriced for what they are(a color you will only be brave enough to wear only once in a while). Also, as a Spring collection, these colors are misplaced.

While this collection happened to be a dud, I am still looking forward to seeing whether the dark lips trend will rage on for the summer, or quietly drift away. What do you all think, yay or nay?
