Halloween Inspiration- A Make Up For Ever Superhero Look

Given my obsession with beauty, and my love of all things creative, it is surprising to some that I do not participate in Halloween festivities. Fact of the matter is, I grew up terrified of clowns, and of people wearing exaggerated monster makeup. I'm not kidding either, as a little girl when I refused to eat my dinner (which was quite often), my mom would threaten to call the clown car. Another fun fact, I told a clown at my 6 year birthday party not to touch me or come near me. Yeah, clowns creep me out.

Anywho, suffice it to say that I don't like the holiday. Not wanting to leave you all out in the cold though, I wanted to at least provide one piece of inspiration. Recall my Illamasqua superhero contest entry.

This look is surprisingly easy to do, with a trick.

Ingredients:

Foundation and blush of your choice
Make Up For Ever Eyeshadows in 75 and 92
Nars Lipstick in Schiap
A pair of funky neon-ified lashes

Apply foundation and blush as usual, and achieve the eye look by applying hot pink to the lid and neon purple to cut the crease. Line under the eye with neon purple, and top off the eye look with the exaggerated lashes.

The stars look difficult, but are super easy to do as well. The secret is stickers. Yep, stickers.

Pick up a pack of standard issue star stickers, and separate the border, not the stars from the sheet. You are then left with rectangular, sticky templates to lay across your face in whatever shape you choose. Pack an eyeshadow brush with the eyeshadow of your choice, and dab it into the star shaped spaces. Once  you peel off the template,  you are left with a face full of stars.

.A fun hot pink lipstick like Nars Schiap gives the look a little something extra.

What will you be this Halloween?

The Joanna Vargas Triple Crown Facial Experience

Beauties, I have a confession to make...

I see... bad skin?

Since I am a beauty blogger, it comes as a shock to most people when I tell them that I have never, ever had a facial. Between the pain promised by the process of extraction, my lack of free time, and my lack of trust in most venues (oy, have I heard stories), I had assembled my own laundry list of excuses for avoiding the aesthetician's bed. For a while, this worked out for me; as I am fortunate in that I have pretty good skin. Lately though, my face hasn't been behaving itself as per usual protocol. A list of volatile ingredients including manic weather, a harsh skin environment, and a heaping helping of stress came together, resulting in a minor case of skin distress. With that, I knew it was time to let go of my fears and take the facial plunge. When offered the opportunity to try the Joanna Vargas Triple Crown facial, I eagerly accepted.

For those who don't know her, Joanna Vargas is a brilliant facialist, sought after by many members of Manhattan's elite. After working for one of the top celebrity facialists in the world, Joanna decided to branch out and open up her own salon, catering to clients with her own developed brand of facials. Her techniques are completely non-invasive, leaving clients with glowing skin and none of the pain and irritation of traditional facials. Joanna's approach is completely holistic, and combines pure and organic skincare with the latest technology has to offer.

The space itself is fairly inconspicuous, and consists of a single treatment room nestled in a standard midtown apartment building. Stepping inside the boutique salon, I immediately felt like I had stumbled upon a mini oasis, far away from the craziness of the urban jungle. The spot was warm and inviting, with soft tranquil music playing overhead, and gauzy white curtains creating a serene ambiance. I entered the single treatment room and found it warm, comfortable, and inviting. Shedding my street clothes (along with my reservations), I happily donned the terry dress the salon provided, sat on the bed, and waited for the fun to begin.

With a soft knock as the door, Joanna entered the room, and I was immediately struck by how flawless and radiant she is. Her own skin is a reflection of her sparkling personality, and of her immense skill. Lying on that bed, I knew that I was in the best of hands, her soft voice and light touch instantly putting me at ease. The process began with Joanna massaging an organic, soothing cleanser into my skin, melting all of my anxieties right along with the dirt trapped on my face. She then followed up with gentle exfoliation via diamond tipped microdermabrasion machine, which gently smoothed out all the rough spots. A skincare analysis confirmed that my skin was in good shape for the most part, and with Joanna's advice I decided I would go for a radiance boost with her signature, The Triple Crown facial.

Veering slightly off the beaten path of the traditional facial, the Triple Crown's main feature is a device that delivers micro-currents to the surface of the skin, promoting collagen and elastin regeneration for a reduction in puffiness and wrinkles. The micro-currents sound scary, but I didn't feel more than a very faint tingle as the device traveled across the contours of my face. Halfway through, Joanna handed me a mirror to point out the differences in the treated vs untreated sides of my face. I looked into my own reflection and saw a significant reduction in puffiness, more prominent cheekbones, and a more toned looking appearance on the treated side. Proof of the facial's efficacy was looking right back at me, and we were only halfway done. After having finished with the microcurrent phase, the last step was a refreshing puff of vitamin spiked pure oxygen, designed to deposit nutrients into my skin while providing cooling refreshment and moisture. I left the salon with radiant, glowing, healthy skin and a more relaxed demeanor. It was official, I was hooked. I am so satisfied with the experience, and so thrilled with my glowing skin, that I know it won't be long before I go back for more.

Joanna Vargas Skin Care is located near Bryant Park. If you are looking for radiant skin, fine-tuned to its maximum potential, look no further than to the Joanna Vargas salon.

Join me in a collective heck yeah, as I am beyond thrilled. Who else shares my sentiments?

Escape to the Spa, without leaving home

The time is noon as I awake in my gauzy four post bed and stretch decadently, slowly rolling across my silk sheets. I ring a bell and my maid comes in with my morning latte, made just the way I like it. Last night was spent with some of my best gal pals, having the time of my life after a recent trip to the islands on the family yacht. I think to myself that today would be a good day to drop hundreds of thousands of dollars on fancy spa treatments.

:Record Scratch:

Woops, must have been daydreaming again. For a moment there I seem to have been thinking my last name is Rockefeller. Gotta up the dosage, or quit with the daydreaming.

Anywho, I do have a confession to make, that despite my OBSESSION with all things beauty, I don't indulge in regular spa visits. Intimidated by the cost, and vast abundance of spas and services available in NYC, I just don't venture down that path very often (if at all). That being said, I do indulge in spa quality products quite often. Here are a few of my current favorites.

Maris San Francisco

For me, there is no better time to indulge in sumptuous body products than in the shower. The fleurs shower gel smells heavenly, lathers beautifully, and does my skin a heck of a lot of good. I follow up with the decadently creamy Bali vanilla body cream for baby smooth skin. Even if I can't afford the massages, its nice to experience a tiny taste of bliss with the decadently scented products.

Taken from the website:

"Maris believes in using superior ingredients that make a difference. The bath and shower gels are made with skin softening extracts that cleanse without drying out the skin. The body crèmes are blended with both shea butter and botanical orange wax for intensive moisturizing."

Maris San Francisco products are available on online, and make great additions to your bath and body arsenal.

Portico Spa Mystifier Body Mist in Cucumber Grapefruit

While Maris provides the perfect products to help me wind down, Portico Spa's the Mystifier serves a slightly different purpose. Namely, the scent of the spray invigorates my tired self, while the formulation moisturizes and provides an antioxidant kick. The combination of cucumber and grapefruit is refreshing, invigorating, and a whole lot of yummy.

A scented all-over body mist with an antioxidant kick. Rose Water and Jojoba Extract combine with Organic Olive Leaf to hydrate. An antioxidant blend of Organic White Tea Extract and Vitamin E helps fight free-radical damage all day. Not too shabby.

Portico Spa products are also available online, and I have even spotted them at various hotels. I especially recommend the Cucumber Grapefruit scent, if you are looking for a refreshing scent fix.

What products do you indulge in to both invigorate and unwind?

Skin Again Cream

Most of us have our own skin woes, whether it be dryness, hyper-pigmentation, dullness, or wrinkles. I know I am not alone in always being on the quest for new and fun (yes, fun) creams to cure what ails my skin problem that day. SkinAgain is a brand that I recently discovered, hosting a plethora of shmear (cream) options that have you covered from head to toe. With innovative skincare products, you are bound to find something you like in this line designed to treat both face and body.

SkinAgain oZ Tone is a cream designed to speed up cell turnover, effectively eliminating dead, dull skin cells to make way for new ones. This healing cream is made up of all kinds of good stuff like anti-aging phyto-nutrients, peptides, and antioxidants. Another element that makes this extra special is the patented Dermavibe formula, which consists of vibrational energies of hundreds of natural extracts and vitamins that stimulate the movement of energy and information on a cellular level. oZ-tone goes on clear and absorbs quickly, leaving no residue. It is free of chemicals, parabens, fragrances and dyes.

The result is more radiant, healthier looking skin that positively glows. This cream leaves my skin plump, hydrated, and close-up ready. oZ-tone quenches the skin, providing an infusion of much needed moisture and nutrients to ensure overall skin health. I have kerastosis pilaris. a side effect of my childhood eczema that leaves me with small, invisible bumps on my upper arms and thighs. I am happy to report that with the use of oZ Tone, I have seen a huge improvement in my skin, and the bumps I hate are practically gone.

SkinAgain oZ-tone is available on the website here. What is on your list of skincare discoveries?

Stila Makeup Player

This looks too cool for me not to share the details.

New from Stila is the Beauty Tube, a new gadget that is a hybrid of beauty and technology. Part docking station, part traincase, and part vanity, this gadget is literally everything you need to take your makeup party on the road.

I won't bore you with details, as you can find those in the pictures. Suffice it to say, a WANT is born.

If the case itself isn't enough to bring about some serious lemmings, you also get these great Stila products right there in the kit:

Who else will be indulging? Stila's Beauty Tube is available on the Stila website.

Blogging with Benefit

More and more, beauty brands are reaching out to the masses and getting personal with their very own blogs, written by the people behind the brand. Insider beauty blogs are wonderful for the perspective they provide, ultimately connecting with readers while shining a spotlight on what life is like inside beauty's gilded curtains. Brand beauty blogs are also great in that they often contain tidbits, tricks, and sneak peeks.

Illamasqua has one, Lancome has one, and now, Benefit Cosmetics has hopped onto the beauty blogging bandwagon too. I am adding it to my list of daily reads, and I think you should too.

Living Proof Hair Has Me Singin' In The Rain

Why I hate rain, a Haiku

Inconvenient
Bringer of frizz and mayhem
Makes me want to hide

I loathe rain. It makes everything messier, and that includes all things beauty. Humidity-induced frizzies are the bane of my coif's existence, and taming poofiness becomes nigh impossible with the promise of the wet stuff. Fortunately, Living Proof's Frizz line has the cure for what ails me, with a line of cleaning and styling products for hair that is especially prone to looking like one just stuck their finger in a socket.

Frizz lets you pick the styling products with the right formula for your hair's texture, mine being thick and coarse. The products smell great, but more importantly, they are effective.

The proof is in the pudding they say, so here is a picture of my hair post Frizz shampoo, conditioner, and curly cream. I must say, I am very impressed. The conditioner conditioned my hair quite well, while the curly cream did its job to keep my hair in it's natural soft curl.

Frizz is available on their own website, or at Sephora. If you hate frizz as much as I do, give this one a go.

The Name on Everybodies Lips is Gonna be (Zoya) Roxy

In case you can't tell, I am crushing on Zoya in a major way. During Fashion Week, the polish fairies were on hand to deliver mini bottles of Roxy to all of us crazy polish lovers out there.

As a special treat, I would like to present you with my own (abridged) rendition of Chicago's 'Roxie'.

The name on everybody's lips is gonna be... Roxy
The polish with not so much a chip is gonna be... Roxy.
She's gonna be a celebrity,
That means somebody everyone knows
They're gonna recognize her 'eyes',
Her name, her brush, her shine, her flows.
....

Ok, it isn't perfect, but I do deserve points for trying. One thing that I am completely serious about is good polish, and Zoya's Roxy is tops, baby.

This polish is a beautiful shade of raspberry, with lots of bling scattered throughout.

See:

Get yourself a bottle of Roxy nail polish today, and become a star. Sing and dance number are completely optional. ;)

Natural Skincare with Revolution Organics, Take 2

My first foray into the world of Revolution Organics Cosmetics had me embracing my natural side. With genuinely good for you ingredients, Revolution has taken the world of organic beauty by storm with their exceptional line of products designed to make you look and feel beautiful, naturally.

Free of dyes, fillers, and other harmful ingredients, the Revolution skincare line is a small collection of items that are multitasking, multipurpose, and altogether something special.

Revolution Organics All Over Skin Creme is a thick, super rich body creme designed to quench dry skin with an infusion of moisture. With over 15 organic ingredients which include aloe vera, shea butter, olive oil, and organic green tea, the all over creme instantly smooths and repairs dry damaged skin with all natural ingredients. The creme is relatively thick, and extremely hydrating without being greasy. If I had to be picky, I did not like the earthy scent to the creme. I prefer for my creams to smell like baked goods, but thats just me.

Revolution Organics Lip Balm is a vitamin packed, all natural, super hydrating lip balm. It is the truly the cure for dry, battered lips.

Revolution Organics Body Balm is a multipurpose, moisturizing stick. It smells of lemony goodness, and holds the cure to most of your skincare woes.

Here are some great uses for the handy dandy little miracle worker:

1. Soothe the cuts I get while pushing paper at my oh so (not) glam job in finance.
2. Smooth out my cuticles between manicures, because gnarly isn't pretty.
3. Tame hair flyaways, on those days it looks like I stuck my finger in a socket.
4. Soften rough elbows and knees, because dry skin isn't pretty.
5. Moisturize my flapping lips, because I talk A LOT.
6. An aromatherapy tool, to sniff when my cubicle becomes unbearably oppressive.
7. Condition an itchy scalp, because constantly scratching your head isn't cute.
8. Moisturize and prime face for makeup.
9. Soothe chafed skin.
10. Soothe the cuts I create when I rip my cuticle off with my teeth (yeah, you know you do it too).
11. Tame my unruly caterpillar brows.
12. Soothe the sting of a no-good mosquito bite.
13. Fix makeup mishaps (like smudged undereye liner).
14. Calm sunburned skin.
15. Moisturize and help heal chapped skin
16. Prevent cracks and cuts caused by dry skin

Revolution Organics has captured my heart, and I think that you will love it too. The full line is available on the Bigelow Chemist's website, as well as the brand's own website. Whether you are looking to go the organic route, or just looking to experience purer beauty, Revolution Organics is an excellent way to go.

No Ifs, Ands, or Boots: Sorel, Apepazza, and MustHaveShoes.com

Being that the cold, clammy hands of fall have descended upon the NYC streets, I figured that now would be a good time to introduce the newest editions to my fall and winter shoe wardrobe.

First up is Sorel, a line that has you covered and protected in even the most disgusting winter conditions. Its a fact that rain/snow boots are notoriously hideous, yet we don them anyway to prevent falling flat on our butts while facing precipitation of the cold, wet, and semi-solid variety. Fortunately, Sorel eliminated the ugly factor, and went for both form and function in their new line of footwear. The Sorel line of boots are excellent for navigating precipitation-laden streets, and look adorable with your winter wardrobe choices. I think you will all agree with me that these are a definite step up from the rubber-band ball smelling rubber monstrosities associated with the term 'rain boot'.

My personal favorite, and the style I will be donning in that nasty, New York slush is the Joan of Arctic Snow Boot

Oh! Starting next week, you will be able to purchase Sorel boots directly from the site. Pretty convenient, if you ask me. :)

Right, so we have a style perfect for braving the elements. How about one for navigating the fashion critical streets of New York City? Hot this season are over the knee boots, heavy on the details. To indulge in the trend without looking overdone, a flat over the knee boot is the perfect choice for day and night. Allow me to introduce you to a stylish fall option, and the website I found it on.

Apepazza is an Italian shoe brand, known for its exceptional quality and on-trend designs. Being that over the knee boots have become the hottest thing since sliced bread, I knew the Cagliari boots would be perfect for this fall season. The detailed buckle, over the knee flap, and very manageable 1'' heel make this comfy boot one of my new go-to's to pair with leggings, jeans, and even skirts. I went with Zinc (light grey), just because I was craving something out of the ordinary. I am sure  you will see me sporting these in several of my outfit posts for fall and winter.

Cagliari

Apepazza boots and shoes are available on MustHaveShoes.com. In case you are not familiar with it, MustHaveShoes is an online shoe boutique that lets you customize your selection by typing in what you are looking for, and pulling all footwear that matches to your specifications. To see what I mean, visit the site and have a go.

For fall, and winter, both Sorel and Apepazza via MustHaveShoes have you covered in both fashion and comfort. The Joan of Arctic and Cagliari boots are my picks for this fall and winter, what are yours?

Have a Boo-Tiful Halloween With Philosophy

My love for Philosophy bath products knows no limits, and that's is a fact, Jack. My own collection consists of about 20! Naturally, I find it is my duty to report on this adorable new mini-shower gel set for Halloween.

Perfect for the chilly months of Autumn, and completely in tune with the whole "trick-or-treating" theme, this set houses two 'treats' in the form of Caramel Apple and Pumpkin Spice Muffin 3 in 1 shower gels. As with all of the other Philosophy shower gels, these are thick, moisturizing, and smell amazing. The full line of Philosophy shower gels can be used as body wash, bubble bath, and even shampoo.

For comparison's sake, the size on each mini is 8 oz, compared to the typical 16 oz in your average Philosophy shower gel bottle.

Philosophy Trick or Treat is available both online, and in Sephora stores. This duo is adorably Halloween themed, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the yumminess all through the fall.

Soap & Paper Factory- The Roland Pine Collection

You all may recall my previous experience with the wonderful perfume brand, so of course I was eager to learn about the newest launch. Just released with the holiday season in mind, Soap & Paper Factory brings us scented home goods that evoke images of cold, crisp air, and lush forests filled with Siberian Fir Trees.

This new scent is available in 4 classic forms:

Aromatic Room Diffuser

Soy Wax Candle

Shea Butter Soap

The scent of pine is sure to get you into the holiday spirit. If you are looking for a scent that will evoke all those holiday warm and fuzzies, look no further than Soap & Paper Factory's Roland Pine Collection.

Chanel Rouge Lacque- Love in a Liquid Lipstick

It has been quite a while since I have mentioned Chanel Beauty here, so shame on me. A beloved high end cosmetics brand, I feel like Chanel consistently delivers both elegance and glamour. I am especially fond of their lip products, and swear by the iconic Glossimer lip glosses. Chanel has done it again, and created a winner in the new Rouge Allure Lacque Luminous Satin Lip Lacquer.

The newest addition to the house of Chanel beauty, Rouge Allure Lacque is a hybrid of gloss and lipstick. With the opacity, coverage, and lasting power of a lipstick, and the sheen of lipgloss, Rouge Allure Lacque is a gift from the cosmetic gods. This liquid lipstick applies with a doe foot applicator, and dries down to a glossy satin finish. As with the Glossimers, there is definitely a subtle sparkle present. Wear on this is excellent, and I find the lacquer to be both creamy, and moisturizing.

The shade I ended up ultimately purchasing was Santal, a creamy carnation pink with subtle gold sparkle.

The doe foot applicator

On the lips:

Chanel Rouge Allure Lacque is a must have for any lip product lover. They are pricey, at $33 for a lipstick, but the fact that it is a two in one product should ease the blow a bit. I definitely see myself purchasing at least another shade, and I am thinking that Dragon would be next on the list.

Who else loves Chanel? Are you feeling the new Rouge Allure Lacque?
